Questions coaches ask

What do my players need?

The Tangent Golf app on their phone — that’s where rounds are scored and where the analytics come from. No extra hardware is required; a launch monitor adds the Tangent Combine and richer per-player reporting (club gapping, speeds, dispersion), but everything else works without one.

Do my players have to pay for Tangent?

No. Players you invite join with their own Tangent account, and their Tangent Pro subscription is comped by the team while they’re on the roster. When a player leaves the roster, the comp is reviewed.

What can I see as a coach — and what stays private?

Team membership is the gate: coaches see full analytics for players on their own roster, and nothing about anyone else. The public program page is separate — it only shows a player’s name and stats if that player has made their Tangent profile public, and that switch belongs to the player.

What exactly is the Tangent Combine?

Five stations — 7-iron control, wedge control to called numbers, driver accuracy, driver power, and your longest hybrid — 50 shots in about 30 minutes on any launch monitor, scored out of 100 from measured carry data. Because it measures what a player can do with each club rather than what they shot, the score means the same thing across months and across the roster.

Which launch monitors work for the Combine?

Foresight GC3/GCQuad, Trackman, SkyTrak, Garmin R10/R50, FlightScope Mevo — and most sims (GSPro, E6) via their CSV export. The import reads the file, groups the shots into stations, and shows you the grouping to confirm before anything is scored.

Do players see each other's analytics?

Teammates see a lighter view of each other — the Combine score and on-course basics. The full strokes-gained analytics are for coaches and for each player looking at themselves.

How do I get my team on Tangent Teams?

We’re bringing on our first 20 school programs as Founding Programs, set up by request — use the Request access button and we’ll get your program set up, usually within a day. There’s no self-serve team creation yet; that’s deliberate while the roster and comp flows are hand-checked.

What does it cost the team?

Founding Programs — our first 20 schools — help shape Tangent Teams with their feedback, and their players get the Tangent app comped while they’re on the roster. Talk to us through Request access and we’ll walk through it for your roster size.

Getting started

What is Tangent Teams?

One home for a golf team that plays together all season. A coach, captain or team owner builds the roster, hands off admin duties, and gets every player’s game in a single view. It shares its foundation with Tangent Golf Groups, but Groups is built around a trip or an event crew — Teams is built around a squad.

How do I get an account?

Teams is invite-only right now — there is no open sign-up. Use Request access in the top nav and we’ll be in touch. If your team already exists, an owner or admin adds you to it; you don’t create your own.

I signed in and there are no teams

That means your account isn’t on a roster yet. Ask your coach, captain or team admin to add you — membership is controlled from the team, not by joining yourself.

Roles and who can do what

What roles are there?

Two roles, plus a captain title a coach can add to any player:

  • Player — on the roster, measured in strokes gained on the coach’s pages, sees their own numbers and a lighter view of teammates.
  • Coach — staff. Sees and runs the whole team: the matrix, drills, messaging, the roster, settings.
  • Captain or co-captain — a player with a badge beside their name, here and on the public team page. It is a title, not staff: a captain sees the team like any other player and can’t assign, message, or change the roster.

Coaches set all of this from Roster under Team settings, the gear by the team name.

Can a coach also be a player?

Not at the same time. A person is a coach or a player on a team, and a coach can switch someone between the two with the Coach box on their row under Team settings → Roster. Captain is a title on a player, so a playing captain is simply a player wearing the badge.

What is a captain or co-captain?

A title a coach gives a player. It puts a badge beside their name on My Team, on their own team page, and on the public team page. Co-captain is the same title for a program that names two, and a team can have as many of either as the coach likes. The title carries no controls and no extra access — a captain sees the team like any other player.

How do I name a captain?

As a coach:

  1. Open Team settings (the gear by the team name) and find Roster.
  2. Tick Captain or Co-Captain on the player’s row. It saves as soon as you click.

Untick to take the title back. Coaches can’t be captains — untick Coach on their row first.

Combine scores

What is the Combine score?

A skills assessment scored 0–100, taken from the player’s most recent Combine session. It is not on-course scoring — it’s a separate read on where a player’s skills are.

Why doesn't the Combine score change with date filters?

It isn’t date-filtered — the Combine column always shows each player’s latest session, whenever that was.

Where the numbers come from

Do players enter scores here?

No. Rounds come from the players’ own Tangent accounts — the iOS app and app.tangent.golf. Tangent Teams reads that data and organises it around the squad; a player who isn’t recording rounds in Tangent won’t have numbers here.

A player's rounds aren't showing up

Check the account. Their roster entry has to point at the same Tangent account they’re playing under — if a player signed up twice with two different email addresses, their rounds sit on the other one. An admin can confirm which account is on the roster.

Team setup

What can I customise about the team?

Name, type, logo, and the team’s primary and accent colours — the colours carry through to how the team is presented in the app, so a squad looks like itself rather than a generic row.
